7 Easy Steps to Check Website Security

Website security

There’s an enormous count of websites that exist on the internet but not all are safe for browsing. Website security is an important aspect that is often ignored by online users. However, if given attention, it could help a lot in preventing phishing scams and other cyber attacks. I have gathered a list of 6 easy steps to check website security for safe browsing.

Watch out the URL

Whether you visit a website directly or through a link, it is important to give a check to the URL. Phishing urls are designed in such as way that they appear to be legitimate at first, but if you go through them carefully, you can figure out the difference. The website might have the same name as that of the original, but its domain extension such as .net, .com, etc. might be altered.

Check the padlock and https

A website that is encrypted and holds a SSL certificate is safe for browsing as it ensures a safe connection between website and browser. You need to check two things here – a padlock symbol in the beginning of address bar and ‘https’ in the beginning of url. Websites that miss these two things shall not be used for entering any personal information such as passwords and usernames.

Test Online

There are several website safety tools that let you check a website for any threats. You just need to simply enter the URL that you would like to visit in search bar of the tool and it will provide results within few seconds.

Install security software

An antivirus online is a lot useful when it comes to staying secured from the most complex threats on the internet. Make sure you choose a software that has anti-phishing, anti-spam features in it. REVE Antivirus comes with a safe browsing feature that let you browse any website in a completely safe environment.

Look at the contact details

The contact us section on a website says much about its legitimacy. A complete address with telephone numbers is a first indication that the website is a real one. However, you can go beyond just looking by giving them a call and seeing how they respond. This will tell you much about them.

Check out the Privacy Policy

Every legit company mentions their privacy policy on their website. You need to check whether the website you want to browse has one or not. If it’s not, we recommend you not to go ahead.

Analyse the Language

A website with bad English can be another indication that it has been developed for malicious motives. Errors in punctuation, grammar, spellings, etc. are commonly found on phishing websites because hackers don’t focus much on language.
